I would recommend for any level but absolutely fantastic for begginers. Can't wait to start actually make the incense cones etc. One person found this helpful. This book is the most important book you can own for learning to make whole herb incense. I have a small business doing so, and self taught with this as my main resource. I do like this book, but this book is better for someone that wants to make incense sticks or cones.
I'm more interested in non-combustible incense. It does mention loose incense blends aka non-combustible incense but most of the recipes are for combustible incense. Even so, I have found this book useful.
Carl Neal does seem to know what he is talking about and I do like the fact that he avoids saltpeter, and these are all natural incenses. Being that I am not a novice, nor am I experienced I fall somewhere in the middle , I found this book helpful but feel a beginner would get a ton more use of this book.
Overall a good experience! Load more international reviews. I'm still reading the book, but what I've read this far is very informative.
I learned that the round charcoal we're accustomed to using contains peter peter and the masala incense sticks are usually dipped in essential oils with a chemical called DPG, these two items when burned gives off small amount of toxic chemicals. I love how thorough and well thought out this book is. I bought it for the recipes and tips, and I was not disappointed.
I especially appreciate the troubleshooting section, as I've been experiencing some difficulties with my last couple batches of incense before buying this book. This is a great book for any beginning incense maker. There are a lot of great tips and practice recipes. Very thorough. The information found in this book answered every one of my "how do I I happily learned a great deal about making something I use daily; means I now save money and greatly expand the variety of incense I can have available.
Can't wait to start making my own! This book contains literally everything you could possibly need to know from beginner to advanced, and has a great deal of wonderful recipes as well for every type of incense!
