The gurbani were written in the 16th century by Guru Arjan — , the fifth of the ten Sikh gurus. The Sukhmani Sahib is divided into 24 sections called ashtpadi , each of which contains eight gurbani. Gurbani from the Sukhmani Sahib are frequently recited by Sikhs, either in a place of worship gurdwara or at home. The term sukhmani comprises two words: sukh peace and mani treasure.
